More than just ice-cream

My memory of ice-cream began late in my childhood. I didn’t know what ice-ream was until I was 4 or 5 years old, when I saw my elder sister rushed with a throng of kids to an ice-cream truck, which came to our village probably only twice a year. The first bite was such an enthralling experience—for it was the hottest time of the year. I stood there watching the truck disappeared in the dust, utterly heart-broken. Then came a short period when I had ice-cream almost everyday. Thanks to 姨丈, who took me daily to a park near my grandma’s house during my family’s brief visit. We would stroll quietly in the park, most of the time in complete silence. And we would always walk to a food stall where he would buy me some ice- cream. I would lick the ice cream feverishly while he gazed far away, obviously in deep thoughts. Who would have much to say to a five-year old? I thought… And the ice cream was just so good….

Now I am older and richer, I can have as much ice cream as I want. A few weeks ago, some smart people from the department that I work came up with a brilliant idea of having group activities intermittently so as to facilitate more interactions between colleagues. The first event was called “the ice-cream break” which we all had ice-cream at the not-so-French sidewalk cafe at the back of our building. Apart from eating and chatting, we also got quizzed on “Ice-cream trivia”. I have listed some interesting questions below. See how much you know about ice-cream and answers will be posted on the blog tomorrow.

Believe it or not, ice-cream tastes best when served at a temperature of 8-degree Farenheit... We should definitely try that during the winter. Um, it’s time to have my favourite ice-cream—Vanilla from Dreyer’s, which got the highest ranking from the Consumer Report...
